DARK STAR: Jet Black paint, from Benjamin Moore, creates drama in this dining room.

IN GOOD TASTE: West Bloomfield-based interior designer Toby Sneider, right, of Sneider Custom Interiors, renovated this West Bloomfield home, above, in mid-century style. The dining room, shown here, has a cathedral ceiling and one full wall, while the rest of the space is surrounded by windows. “This wall, combined with adequate height and light, allows for drama,” says Sneider, who even enlarged a chandelier by custom-fabricating a sheer shade for it. The black wall complements the chandelier, as well as a table, buffet, vases, and dining chairs in a handsome menswear fabric.

“I felt a black wall would not only make a statement, but it (would) offer an excellent backdrop for the homeowner’s treasured vintage chandelier.”  — Toby Sneider
