Residential Landscape Design Construction (Between a Half and Full Acre)
First
Stewart Hass & Associates - This Key West, Fla., project involved a complete site renovation with a new house footprint while maintaining existing valuable trees/palms. It required designing a new entry pergola and door, privacy fencing, pool decking, two pool cabanas, and a pool renovation with the addition of an accent water feature.

External Use of Stone/Tile/Concrete
First
first / Michael J. Dul & Associates - Rustic stacked stone slabs are used for the staircase treads and retaining wall. Granite outcroppings are randomly placed in the landscape and complete the natural setting. Flat rustic stone slabs create a footpath.

Playhouse / Outdoor Building
First
Kevin Hart Associates / Victor Talia Construction - This 342-square-foot outbuilding has full-height wood casement windows and a fireplace fashioned from stacked Michigan river rock. Slate floors are electrically heated.

Gate / Fence / Wall
First
Stefani & Co. - This design — formed of galvanized and painted fabricated steel with cast-bronze hinges and finial sand stainless-steel hinge pins — was inspired by early-spring plant life pushing through the forest floor.

Residential Landscape Water Feature
First
Great Oaks Landscape Associates - A five-acre site allowed for a dynamic feature. Twelve feet high and 120 feet long, this waterfall has a maximum flow of 6,000 gallons a minute. Flow can be switched from roaring to gentle.

Third
Residential Swimming Pool / Spa
First
AZD Associates-Architects - Floor-to-ceiling glass walls open the room, and a glass ceiling allows viewing from the living area above. An illuminated plastic grid suspended from the ceiling creates the illusion of water hanging from the ceiling.

Deck / Patio / Porch
First
DesRosiers Architects / Schaerer Architextural Interiors - Though this home occupies a corner lot near downtown Aspen, this space is private. The patio is entered via the family room through a wall of mahogany-trimmed Nana Doors that can be completely opened. Large squares of walnut travertine and exposed aggregate create the grid surface.

Conservatory / Screen Room / Sunroom
First
Dominick Tringali Architects - Because this home had virtually no rear yard, the backyard was brought into the home. This conservatory is a functional, all-season living space that allows light to flood into adjacent rooms.

Residential Landscape Design Construction (Under One Acre)
First
Tuzinowski Landscape Co. - Because neighboring properties are much higher, arborvitae hedges were planted for privacy. Climbing hydrangea, Boston ivy, and euonymus soften the retaining walls. In the planting beds, large plant material gives the feeling that the home has been here for years.

Residential Landscape Design Construction (More Than One Acre)
First
Great Oaks Landscape Associates - Formal and kitchen gardens are laid out closest to the main house with additional strolling and border gardens to enhance the view from the house. The grand entrance is softened with a knot garden.
Second
Artistic Landscape Associates / Anderson Custom Pools
Third
Michael J. Dul & Associates
