Five questions with … Lisa Rennell
During the chaos of holiday shopping, it’s good to have a go-to gift shop when collecting odds-and-ends for family and friends. Grosse Pointe’s Rennell & Co. is just that shop. Recently, we asked owner Lisa Rennell for her tips and trends for the season.
As far as trends go, what are you seeing?
Metallic anything. Things that are useful, that have — in some way — a solidness to them. Texture is important. How does the item feel in your hands?
How do you keep things fresh?
Pay attention to everything, current styles, gift shows in Chicago and New York, and more importantly, what’s going on in people’s homes.
When you think of style constants in your life, what are they?
Something that captures your attention when you walk into a room. Then from that piece, everything begins to flow. Home fragrance is also key. There are many ways to accomplish this, including scented candles, diffusers, or a good, clean incense, to name a few. Whatever your choice, a home should smell beautiful.
What companies or labels do you love right now?
The design and fragrance of Gianna Rose Atelier’s triple-milled soaps are hard to beat. Votivo Candles — Red Currant in particular — are just about perfect. I’m also quite taken with Graphic Image, our new leather accessory line from New York, and the fact that they offer personalization on most items makes them even more versatile as a gift option.
Finally, if you could choose one thing to buy this season, what would it be?
An old-fashioned, full-size leather dictionary and thesaurus from Graphic Image in a hot color. How can that ever go out of style?
